Dancer, Dreamcatcher – Tanja Kuisma (b. 1980) has earned her Master’s Degree from the dance department of the Theatre Academy, Helsinki, in the spring of 2003. Ms. Kuisma has danced in Thomas Freundlich’s works The Abyss and the Stars, North Star Boogie, Dreamcatcher, Airflow and Sleepless. In Dreamcatcher, she was awarded the 2nd Prize in Dancing at the 9th International Solo-Dance-Theatre Festival, held at TREFFPUNKT Rotebühlplatz, Stuttgart, in March 2005. The work was also awarded the Audience Prize of the festival.
Tanja Kuisma has danced in contemporary dance works by Marianne Rouhiainen, Petri Kekoni, Favela Vera Ortiz, Riitta Pasanen-Willberg, Ismo-Pekka Heikinheimo, Ervi Siren, Kaisa Torkkel, Harri Kuorelahti, Marjo Kuusela, Jenni Kivelä, Arja Tiili and numerous other Finnish choreographers.
In September 2010, Ms. Kuisma made her debut as choreographer in the solo work Sähkönsiirto (Powerline), commissioned by and premiered at Tanssin Aika contemporary dance festival in Jyväskylä, Finland.
Ms. Kuisma has studied mime and physical theatre with Adam Darius and Kazimir Kolesnik and has participated in master classes by Nola Rae, John Nicholsson and David Sant. Concurrently with her work as dancer, she teaches contemporary dance and ballet.
