Raw, intense and furious, Futureproof is a whirlwind trip through deep time, from the dawn of consciousness to the confusion of an individual in contemporary society.

Set to a collage of electronic, ethnic and rock music, Futureproof poses the question, are we not still creatures of the planet we evolved on, though our jungle is now a concrete one?

"The history of humankind in 10 minutes...why not? Here I wanted to explore a direction quite far from my training in classical and modern dance. The movement language is rough, even violent; nothing formal or trendy here. But in technology and art, is a step forward necessarily a step forward?"

Choreography and dance: Thomas Freundlich

Repetiteur and assistant: Tanja Kuisma

Music: Material, Tod Dockstader, Radiohead, electronic and shortwave radio collage

Premiere at 13th International Solo-Dance-Theatre Festival, Stuttgart, Germany, March 13th, 2009

Duration 10 minutes

Sections of the solo material have been remixed from Actuator, the groundbreaking duet for dancer and industrial robot premiered in May 2008 in Helsinki, Finland.
